Karnataka revenue department has announced a major reform they have enacted ordinances that allow citizens to survey their land without having to wait for a licensed or government-employed surveyor. According to the official orders of the Revenue Department , the Swavalambi app will allow citizens themselves to survey and sketch private land. Lands under single, multiple and joint ownership will also be able to avail this facility.
Revenue Minister R Ashoka called it an “administrative reform” that “empowers citizens”. Karnataka has 2.5 crore landholdings or plots registered. When a plot has multiple owners and boundaries are to be determined a survey becomes a very important factor. The self-survey facility can be availed for 11E sketch, Tatkal Phodi, pre-conversion sketch and partition deed sketch
What is Swavalambi Application?
Swavalambi is an application developed by Karnataka government’s Revenue Department to map the land . It is frequently used to draw the land boundaries. after.
There was a long waiting period due to government flooded by millions of applications to create land maps(which is also known as electronic sketches). To resolve the issue government Swavalabmi application was introduced. Features like 11E drawings and Tatkal Podi can be used free of cost by farmers .
“The number of surveyors is limited and every month we receive over a lakh survey applications. Also, there are some six lakh applications already pending at various stages. This makes citizens wait for several months and, in some cases, years,” Ashoka said. “To solve this problem, we’ve formulated a system for citizens to prepare their own sketches,” he said.
